Tips for selling to a dealer

    Finding a car dealer

Motorway can place your car in front of thousands of professional car dealers, so you’ll get their best price. There are other ways to sell your car to a dealer:

    • Instant car-buying sites – these are normally very quick, but can mean lower prices.
    • Car classified ad sites – these can require  a lot of time and admin profiling and then selling your car.
    • Driving to a dealership – it can be hard to negotiate a good price when talking with one dealership at a time, whether you sell or part-exchange.

At Motorway, we’re constantly working to build the best way for people to sell their cars, straight to verified dealers, from their phone.

    • Appearances count – what’s under the hood is important too, but you should get your car looking its best.
    • Take quality photos – that means no blurry, rainy day shots, but no lens flare from overly sunny days either.
    • Manage expectations – your car may look great and drive better but some. things are inescapable, like age and its impact on car depreciation.
    • Paperwork – You’ll also want to make sure your paperwork is in order. Here’s what documents you need to sell your car.

Commonly asked questions about selling your car to a dealer

What documents do I need to sell my car?

You’ll need the following in order to sell your car to a dealer (or anyone else):

    • V5C/ Logbook
    • Service history
    • Proof of purchase
    • MOT certificates

If you bought your car on finance like PCP you’ll also need a Finance Settlement letter which will allow you to pay off what you still owe on the vehicle, or have a car dealer settle for you once you agree on a sale.
